I believe that just as we are born with a sin nature, we are born with a musical nature.<\/p>\n
Music resonates within us as if coming out of our very souls. It is found in all parts of society in every culture around the globe. There is not one group of people anywhere on the planet that is void of music. It is an absolute commonality to man.<\/p>\n
Some people love to sing. Some, like me, seem to come out of the womb with a song in their heart that just won\u2019t quit. It\u2019s hard for me to go a single day without singing. That\u2019s why I take losing my voice so personally! Everyone thinks I\u2019m a germaphobe, and I am, but only because of that reason. I simply must sing, and not just because it\u2019s my living. It is so much a part of what I do that most of the time I am unaware I am singing.<\/p>\n
Others whistle. My grandfather was always whistling and his tone even had a vibrato! Some people are rhythmic and can\u2019t keep from tapping everywhere and on everything. Others participate musically by listening and simply enjoying what they hear.<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t know of anyone who has ever said, \u201cI don\u2019t like music.\u201d<\/em> Of course, everyone has preferences (and usually strong ones) when it comes to style and genres and what is acceptable to their personal tastes. But are all musical beings by nature. God created us to be so.<\/p>\n In Psalm 33:1-3<\/strong> we are commanded to sing in our worship of the Lord. In this passage, \u201csing for joy\u201d is better translated as “rejoice.”<\/p>\n Sing for joy (Rejoice) in the Lord, O you righteous ones;<\/strong> Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre;<\/strong> Tim Keller says, \u201cPraise is \u2018fitting. It fits God because he is worthy and fits us because we were created for it. Thus, generous and happy people are prone to praise while others are prone to complain. Praise is \u2018inner health made audible.\u2019 But we were created not for praise in general but to worship something supremely, to have our thoughts and hearts captivated. We need to draw our hearts from fixation on other things and become enraptured with the beauty of the Lord. One of the main ways to do this is to use skillful music in our worship and private devotion.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Skillful or not, let us be found singing to our Savior. He has crafted us as musical beings.
